Dear visitors,

Thank you for your stopping by at the website of the German Embassy Lilongwe!

Germany and Malawi look back to many years of friendship and cooperation. When Malawi gained independence on 6 July 1964, Germany turned its existing Consulate in Blantyre into an Embassy which was later relocated to Lilongwe in 1979. More than half a century of German official presence in Malawi illustrates Germany’s commitment to support Malawi on its way to a prosperous and peaceful development.

Germany’s and Malawi’s political cooperation is based on trust and mutual respect. On the multinational level we are reliable and predictable partners. In the United Nations we work jointly in the spirit of mutual understanding and mutual respect.

Germany’s official presence in Malawi , the “German Cooperation” is composed of the Embassy, the German GIZ (Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) and the KfW Development Bank. We are committed to assist the Government and people of Malawi in achieving the ambitious goals of the Agenda 2063.

In addition, the activities of a large number of volunteers, churches, aid organisations, private initiatives, non-governmental organisations, and private persons reflect the many private initiatives and close personal ties which exist between Germany and Malawi.

Our website will continue to highlight the engagement of so many of our partners, so please stay in touch with us!

With warm regards,

Ute König
