The German Embassy in Lilongwe is advertising a full-time position as a gardener.

The position is offered for one year, starting on 1st October 2025, with the option to be extended on the basis of another one-year contract and ultimately a permanent contract.


Main Duties

  • Gardening work on the premises of the Ambassador's residence;
  • Assisting in preparing meetings or events at the Ambassador's residence and similar duties, if required;
  • Maintenance of gardening tools.


Qualifications required

  • Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE);
  • Technical or Craft Certificate/Diploma;
  • Good command of English in writing and speaking;
  • Professional experience of at least 5 years in a similar position;
  • Reliability, discretion and confidentiality, as well as ability to integrate well in a team;
  • Ability to work under pressure;
  • Good manners and good communication skills.


Regular working hours amount to 40 hours per week.
Remuneration is paid according to the Embassy's current salary grid.
The employment contract is based on Malawian labour law.

Applicants without the Malawian nationality are required to provide proof of their Malawian permanent residence and work permits.

Successful candidates have to undergo a health examination as well as a security check before being employed.
